The Dessert Personality Test
Your dessert order might reveal more about you than your coffee order ever will.
Think about what you choose when nobody is recommending anything. Maybe you automatically reach for a brownie at Theobroma. Maybe a chunky cookie from Sweetish House Mafia is your comfort zone. Perhaps you look for something from Oh Dough, CRÈME Cookies, Cookie Cartel or Le15 Patisserie. Maybe your idea of indulgence is La Folie, Poetry by Love and Cheesecake, or something sweet alongside coffee at Third Wave Coffee or Subko Coffee Roasters.
You probably think you're choosing based on taste.
But taste is only part of the story.
We don't always choose the dessert that sounds best. We choose the one that feels right.
There is the Comfort Seeker. They know exactly what they like and see no reason to experiment every time. The familiar brownie, cookie or cheesecake isn't boring to them. It's reliable. It brings back a feeling they've already decided they love.
Then there's the Explorer. They want the flavour they've never tried, the bakery their friend hasn't heard of yet, the dessert that makes them say, "I've never had this before." For them, discovering a new bakery is almost as satisfying as eating the dessert itself.
The Giver chooses differently. They're thinking about someone else before themselves. A birthday box. A thank-you. A surprise after a difficult week. They aren't simply buying cookies or brownies. They're choosing something they hope will create a reaction.
And then there's the Purist. They don't need a dessert covered in ten different toppings. Give them a really good cookie, brownie or pastry where the basics are right, and they're happy. They notice freshness, texture and balance because they care about the experience more than the decoration.
Most of us are a little bit of all four.
That's the interesting part.
Your favourite dessert isn't only telling you what you like to eat. It's telling you what you want to feel.
Comforted. Surprised. Generous. Indulgent. Nostalgic. Curious.
And that explains why two people can look at the same dessert menu and make completely different choices. They're not solving the same problem.
One wants comfort. Another wants discovery. Someone else wants to make another person happy.
At Sprinklesnswirlss, that's one of the reasons we don't think there's one "perfect" dessert for everyone. Different moments call for different things. Sometimes you want the cookie you already know. Sometimes you want to discover your next favourite. Sometimes you're buying for yourself, and sometimes the person opening the box matters more than you do.
The practical details matter too. Freshness, ingredients, texture, preparation and thoughtful packaging all influence whether something is worth coming back for. But those reasons usually arrive after the first connection has already happened.
So next time you're choosing dessert, try something different.
Don't ask, "What's the best one?"
Ask, "What am I looking for today?"
A little comfort? Something new? Something to share? Or simply a really good dessert?
Your answer might tell you more about your dessert personality than you expected.
And somewhere between the cookie you always order and the one you've never tried, you might discover your next favourite.
